Video souvenir from the Adelaide Fringe

Adelaide video blogger, Mema Sifa, came to see Kath on a Hot Tin Roof on opening night, and has just emailed a ‘handmade’ souvenir of the evening!

Mema created this fun and kooky review for a competition, so by watching this video which has a few snippets of Kathryn’s show in Adelaide, you’ll also be helping Mema progress in Samsung’s U10 Shoot to Share competition. Please support this fellow artist on her creative quest!

For a transcript of the video, please visit Mema’s blog. Thanks, Mema!

Rip It Up says Kath on a Hot Tin Roof is ‘truly authentic storytelling’

Note from Jen:

With only three shows left in Adelaide, it was a big surprise just now to spot another review of Kath on a Hot Tin Roof!

Here’s hoping that the enthusiasm of the two Rip It Up reviewers will translate to some crowded dancing in the aisles by Sunday’s final show! What a ride it’s been so far…

Kath On A Hot Tin Roof Austral Hotel – The Bunka, Wed Mar 3

Reviewed by Ian Newton and Kate Battersby

Sometimes you see an act that has it all: anxiety, cancer, tits, kids and facial hair, whales, cracked nipples, ice cream and bridges; barbies, broken bones, the Labor Party, Cubs and bums. “Impossible!” I hear you say. Hell, no! A life lived with passion and told with love (and a little bit of piss-taking), a constant tickling of the humour bone and a bucket of pathos, this story will lift you up above the fence line.

Sassy and fabulous Kathryn-with-a-K takes you on a suburban journey of true life. Don’t take it on trust, see for yourself: truly authentic storytelling that makes reality TV’s ‘journey’ look like a crawl.

Final word: Breakneck.

Kath On A Hot Tin Roof continues at The Bunka at The Austral Hotel until Sunday 14 March. Tickets can be booked online on the Adelaide Fringe website.

Adelaide Advertiser reviews Kath on a Hot Tin Roof

Kath on a Hot Tin Roof

Kathryn keeping things hot on the roof at The Austral

*** Three stars – Kath on a Hot Tin Roof at The Bunka Room, The Austral

“Kathryn Bendall gets top marks for the name of her show. At 59, she’s the oldest comic making a Fringe debut and she is a magnificent example to all who dream of a second life.

Bendall is not a gags comedian. She is a narrative stand-up – spinning  a stream of yarns about her adventures as a Labor Branch stacker, gangster’s moll, mother of three in local government and a sufferer of anxiety and panic attacks.

On opening night the anxiety was evident and it was clear Bendall was skipping about in  her material. Nonetheless, she has the goods – a rounded Lily Tomlin style presence and a patter which is not a belly laugh, but steadily amusing and occasionally deliciously original.”

Samela Harris, Adelaide Advertiser,  Tuesday March 9th 2010
